Thanks to the guys on the yard who did such a wonderful job in turning him out. They did a fantastic job and he looked stunning. This year ‘Melody’ was used as a demonstration horse during the display and Carlos has gone on in the following days to work with her in depth , riding her bareback and bitless and working on gaining her confidence and building her trust in a very natural and giving way.

Jane Myerscough was on hand during the demonstration and highlighted to a receptive audience the work faced by the Trust in rescuing, rehoming and rehabilitation horses in these challenging times.

A raffle in part aid of IHWT was kindly organised by Judy Braniff of Diamonds Lane Equestrian , Portaferry during the demonstration an clinics.

Then centre comprises of 68 acres with many of our horses living out. Working without the facility of a tractor makes our job incredibly difficult and means incurring the extra cost of hiring.

The IHWT welcomes Moyle Council's decision to ban horse trading at the Lammas Fair In Ballycastle. An IHWT Welfare Officer has attended the Fair for several years working alongside Department of Agricultural Representatives, the PSNI and other relevant bodies to resolve a plethora of neglect , mismanagement and cruelty issues concerning horses, ponies and donkeys.

Jane Myercough explains”IHWT is made up of 80% of volunteers who offer their time to support the work of the IHWT. There are many people out there who have always wanted to do more or make a real impact within the world of equine welfare, and this is a way for them to get directly involved and do just that”.

The recession has put a huge strain on the resources of charities, and that IHWT needs to constantly fundraise in order to continue providing this frontline service for horses that need immediate assistance.
IHWT has opportunities for both fundraising volunteers and welfare officers.

The most immediate fundraiser will take place at the Punchestown festival which runs from Tuesday 24th to Saturday 28th of April and IHWT need bucket shakers fundraising volunteers for this event.

We would like to take the opportunity to thank Punchestown, for this great fundraising opportunity and their continued support adds Myerscough .

The horse owners have been very cooperative and have welcomed the help of the IHWT. This meant that we were able to treat all the horses on site for worms and lice, and have set up a program to monitor this on an on-going basis. With the cooperation of the owners, IHWT have taken in 2 equines that were surrendered to us, as it was realised by the current owners that the horses needed a higher level of care then they could give. With the involvement of IHWT officers advice can be offered in the future to help horse owners in the day to day care of their horses.

IHWT is co coordinating with the local horse owners into forming a Horse Club with a long term view of securing a site that is suitable for the horses and owners. The horse owners are very keen to see this goal achieved and are actively doing their best to move towards securing a permanent and appropriate site.

The IHWT is currently home to almost 60 equines and with funding down we are desperately in need of money to help us continue our work. We are hoping that this year we can raise €5000 euro with your help.
